The Scientific Committee welcomes the submission of research abstracts for presentation. Free paper communications will be presented in either of the following formats:

(a) Oral Regular
(b) Oral Late Breaker
(c) Poster

Accepted abstracts will be published in a FAOPS 2022 congress supplement in the journal Frontiers in Surgery.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

  • All abstracts must be submitted via the FAOPS 2022 abstract submission portal provided. Submission via email, fax or postal mail will not be accepted.
  • Abstracts are to be submitted in English text and should be no longer than 300 words.
  • Organise the abstract under the headings Title, Researchers (underline the Principal Investigator), Institution, Background, Objectives, Methods, Results and Conclusions as below:
Title The title should be precise.
Write as in Titlecase i.e. to capitalise each initial letter of the major words in the sentence except definite/indefinite articles, short prepositions/conjunctions, or acronyms.
Authors and Institutions

All responsible authors should be listed in full names using stated format. Do not include professional/academic/honorary titles/credentials.

The presenting author should be the first author. State and underline the name.

State names of co-corresponding authors (include academic titles) with affiliations in the specified area in the submission portal. There is no limit to the overall number of authors. However, we advise to limit to fewer than ten authors. For correspondence, we suggest 1 author, with a maximum of 2 names allowed, where there should be equal contributions, principal investigator, or overall supervisor.

Write the institution/ affiliation of each author clearly using stated format. Institutional affiliations should be indicated with superscript numbers following the names of the respective authors, with the presenting author’s affiliation be listed first.

Introduction/ Background Briefly introduce the premise of the research, and the rationale for conducting the research.
Objective(s) State the main objective(s) of the study or hypothesis tested.
Material and Method(s) Briefly describe the design of the study and how it was conducted.
Result(s) Describe the key findings of the research. The statement of "The study results will be presented" is not acceptable.
Conclusion Highlight the principal conclusion and summarise the core message(s) from the research.
Keywords Select maximum 5 keywords for indexing purpose, that would avail your abstract to an internet search. Avoid duplicating words used in your title.
  • Abstracts of case reports will have the heading ‘Report’ instead of ‘Objectives’, ‘Methods’ and ‘Results’.
  • The abstract should not contain any references.
  • Conflicts of interests or grants received must be disclosed in the submission portal under `Disclosures’.
*Late Breaking Abstracts
  • Late breaking abstract submissions will only include the following types of submissions which had not been previously accepted, presented or published at any other scientific meeting or journal at the time of submission:
      • Late breaking clinical trial or clinical trial update/ follow-up results
      • Late breaking new and pertinent registry data
      • Late breaking pertinent/emerging perinatal science/ innovation
      • Late breaking pertinent/emerging qualitative research
  • It must be novel, innovative, contemporary, and be of high scientific significance to deserve special consideration after the original abstract deadline. Abstracts should describe either large clinical investigations or high-impact translational research that could not be completed prior to the regular deadline.
  • Late-breaking abstracts must not be a revision of an abstract submitted prior to the original submission deadline.
General Rules for Submission
  • Delegate must register for the congress prior to abstract submission and accompanied by proof of payment of registration fees. The registration fee will only be refunded to the author in accordance with the cancellation policy.
  • Scheduling details and guidelines for the final preparation of accepted presentations for the on-demand oral presentation sessions will be provided following the initial notification of acceptance.
  • Top free papers from each category and shortlisted late breaking abstracts will be provided presentation slots in the virtual conference with live Q&A sessions. Notification of top selected papers will be done separately from the notification for acceptance of abstracts for on-demand oral presentation.
  • All accepted free papers will be uploaded into the `Video-on-Demand’ session for viewing during the congress.
  • The final selection will be the responsibility of the Scientific Committee.
  • Accepted abstracts will be published in a FAOPS 2022 congress supplement in the journal Frontiers in Surgery.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FREE PAPER PRESENTATION

Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers. Presenters of accepted abstracts will be notified to prepare presentations in formats as indicated below:

Oral Presentation
  • All accepted oral abstract presenters, including the short-listed candidates in each category, will need to prepare a pre-recorded 10 minutes video of their presentations for uploading to a video-on-demand site within the Congress website.
  • The instruction on video preparation, uploading details and deadline will be provided following the abstract acceptance notification email.
  • There will be an active `Question & Answer’ chat accessible to congress delegates and the presenter throughout the conference and for 2 weeks after the conference.
  • The uploaded videos can be viewed for 3 months after the congress.
  • Presenters short-listed to compete for the Oral Presentation award in each category will have their pre-recorded session shown LIVE in the allocated Congress programme slots, and will be subjected to 5 minutes of live discussion with the respective panel of appointed judges. All presenters must be punctual for the presentation.
e-Poster Presentation
  • Presentation in the Poster Session will be numbered as listed in the programme.
  • The top of the final poster must have a label indicating its title, author(s), and institutions. Title headings can be in all capitals or in `titlecase’.
  • Use attractive graphics, colour and fonts to highlight the main points of your study.  
  • Your poster must consist of only 1 slide and should be composed with digital technical requirements as specified below.

  • All poster file submission should be done through the presenting author’s account in the Congress website portal by July 4, 2022.
  • There will be an active `Question & Answer’ chat accessible to congress delegates and the presenter throughout the conference and for 2 weeks after the conference.
  • The shortlisted e-Posters for awards will be shown in the allocated Congress programme session. The shortlisted presenters will be subjected to 5 minutes of LIVE discussion with a panel of appointed judges.
